Working with one of our top financial clients, this role calls for a Senior Mainframe DBA – DB2/IMS/CICS. This position involves providing expert database administration, development support, and technical guidance for mainframe systems, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations within a dynamic and diverse team.
Pay rate range (CAD): $55.07/hr – $66.08/hr
Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise on the design, development, and integration of mainframe databases including IMS, DB2, and CICS.
- Deliver technical guidance on software updates and configurations related to mainframe databases.
- Support database administration tasks such as performance tuning, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.
- Assist in application code development using Cobol and related mainframe languages.
- Collaborate with development teams, operations support, and vendors to resolve database and mainframe issues.
- Support or lead code change management processes utilizing tools like ServiceNow and Endevor.
- Participate in minor weekend implementations and on-call support as needed.
- Investigate and resolve functional, application performance, and capacity issues.
Desired Skill-Set
- 3+ years' experience with IMS, DB2, and CICS (total of 3+ years if combined with Oracle)
- 3+ years' experience working in a z/OS TSO/ISPF environment
- Strong knowledge of mainframe tools including MACRO4, IMS, and DB2 administration tools, and IBM Application Performance Analyzer (APA) or equivalent
- Experience with code and change management tools such as ServiceNow and Endevor
- Good understanding of mainframe application development, particularly with Cobol
- Familiarity with mainframe assembler is an asset
- Experience with mainframe job scheduling tools like CA-7 (nice to have)
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
Nice to Have
- Skills in Easytrieve, SAS, DB2 Connect, and TOAD
- Knowledge of CA-7 scheduler functionality
- Banking or financial services experience
