Working with one of our top financial clients, this role calls for a Azure SQL Database Administrator- PostgreSQL/Banking. This position involves providing specialized database support, optimizing performance, and ensuring the security and reliability of critical systems vital to various lines of business. This is a 6-month contract with the potential for extension or conversion to full-time employment based on performance and project needs.
Pay rate range (CAD): $68.23/hr – $98.00/hr
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of and lead technical resolutions for production incidents on MSSQL and Oracle databases
- Communicate complex technical issues clearly to stakeholders and business partners
- Ensure compliance with organizational standards for change control and database security policies
- Analyze recurring incidents and recommend service improvements
- Support on-call rotations, including incident response and customer support
- Participate in incident management, scheduled disaster recovery, and SCM activities
- Conduct post-mortem analyses and root cause investigations of critical incidents
- Install, configure, and maintain MSSQL and Oracle databases
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and resource management
- Implement security best practices including user access control, encryption, and auditing (TDE, Data Redaction, Database Vault, Always Encrypted)
- Design and support high availability (RAC, HA) and disaster recovery strategies
- Automate routine database monitoring and maintenance tasks
Desired Skill-Set
- 5-7 years of experience with Azure Cloud databases, focusing on MSSQL
- 2+ years of experience with PostgreSQL
- Proven experience with setup, installation, and configuration of database products
- Strong skills in query tuning, troubleshooting, and monitoring database issues
- Hands-on cloud migration experience
- Knowledge of database backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures
- Familiarity with database security features and best practices
Nice to Have
- Experience with ServiceNow Ticketing System
- Knowledge of SolarWind Performance Monitoring Tools
- Azure Certification(s)
- Financial Industry (FI) experience
