Accountant – Taxation T2/T3 Returns

Working with one of the top financial clients, this role calls for an Accountant – Taxation T2/T3 Returns who will complete the independent validation of information through the requirements that are in place, including analytical analysis. This candidate will move beyond the preparation and validation process to include an inherent analytical perspective of the product, to ensure the integrity of the data that supports the reporting of the financial statement and taxation processes. This position is responsible for preparing financial statements and reporting, and taxation responsibilities. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring compliance with Company and Regulatory requirements as defined. The focus of this role is on producing results over a 3-6 month timeframe.
Responsibilities:
- Review the financial statements and ensure they are prepared on a timely and accurate basis and are compliant with the regulatory requirements.
- Review the T3 Returns and ensure they are prepared and filed on a timely and accurate basis and are compliant with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
- Review the T2 Returns and ensure they are prepared and filed on a timely and accurate basis and are compliant with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
- Analyze in detail the accounting and tax impact of complex corporate actions affecting the funds on a timely and accurate basis.
- Calculate and analyze income and capital gains distributions for the Mutual Fund Trusts, Mutual Fund Corporations and Pooled Funds and ensure the calculations are compliant with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
- Calculate and analyze tax factor calculations for each class or fund for T3 unitholder filings.
Desired Skill Set:
- Extensive investment fund accounting experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements and notes to the financial statements for investment funds.
- 3-5 years of experience in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing investment fund distributions and tax returns for mutual fund trusts, unit trusts and mutual fund corporations.
- Fundamental knowledge and understanding of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), Canadian Income Tax and regulations as they apply to investment funds.
- Previous experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and any other related accounting software.
- Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking.
- Ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
- University degree or equivalent
- Accounting designation, i.e. CMA or CGA
- Canadian Securities Course or IFIC designation
- Operational abilities in automated network and application software tools, including external software.
