Financial Reporting Accountant/Analyst

Working with one of our top financial clients, this role calls for a Financial Reporting Accountant/Analyst who will be responsible for analyzing financial information, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, business acumen, and problem-solving ability to support regulatory reporting and financial analysis activities. This individual will work closely with stakeholders across Finance, Actuaries, and Reinsurance, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and integrity in financial and regulatory reporting processes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, accounting records, and other reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting standards.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, including preparing reports comparing budgeted costs to actual expenses.
- Compute taxes owed, prepare tax returns, and ensure compliance with tax reporting requirements.
- Develop and document accounting systems, procedures, and manuals, and provide guidance to accounting personnel.
- Prepare, review, and submit regulatory returns (annual and quarterly) in accordance with guidelines.
- Ensure consistency across regulatory returns, reconcile to GL and source data, and resolve variances.
- Identify and explain quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year variances.
- Coordinate certifications with internal stakeholders and respond to audit queries.
- Support internal audit reviews and assist in remediation of findings.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to implementation efforts.
- Collaborate with the Senior Manager Finance on various ad-hoc business requests impacting regulatory reporting.
Must-Have Skills
- CPA designation.
- 5+ years of experience in financial reporting or regulatory reporting, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
- 10+ years of financial/accounting experience, with demonstrated ability to analyze business trends and project revenues/expenses.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and accounting software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and perform under tight deadlines.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting regulatory audits and implementing process improvements.
- Background in insurance, reinsurance, or financial institutions.
- Advanced degree in a financial discipline.
