Working with one of our top financial clients, this role calls for a Accountant-IFRS & Research. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex accounting issues, gain exposure to senior executives, and contribute to a globally recognized organization. The role involves providing technical IFRS advisory support, engaging in research, stakeholder communication, and assisting with external financial reporting. The work is dynamic, with diverse challenges involved in maintaining and interpreting accounting policies across the bank's wholesale segment.
Pay rate range (CAD): $38.12/hr – $45.74/hr
Responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert on IFRS accounting issues, including financial instruments and consolidation
- Review new business and product proposals, advising on IFRS 9 business model assessments and related accounting implications
- Conduct technical research, prepare accounting memos, and develop presentation materials
- Assist in the preparation of external consolidated shareholder reports, ensuring compliance with IFRS and regulatory requirements
- Keep updated on new IFRS pronouncements; present technical updates and develop accounting policy materials
- Translate complex accounting topics into clear communications for stakeholders
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, external auditors, and advisory firms
- Perform ad hoc tasks to support team initiatives
Desired Skill-Set
- CPA designation, with 5+ years of relevant experience in financial accounting
- Strong experience researching and resolving complex IFRS issues, particularly in financial instruments and consolidation
- Previous work at a Big 4 accounting firm
- Sound knowledge of IFRS standards and ability to interpret emerging standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Proven ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple priorities
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Nice to Have
- Experience working specifically within financial institutions, such as banks or credit unions
- Prior advisory or consulting experience related to complex accounting transactions
- Exposure to regulatory filings or investor reporting processes
- Project management experience in finance or accounting environments
