Working with one of our top financial clients, this role calls for an Data Scientist – Python/AML. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead analytical initiatives within transaction monitoring systems, enhancing operational efficiencies and supporting compliance efforts. The role involves developing and maintaining models, performing data analysis, and collaborating with internal teams to mitigate financial crime risks. You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to innovative solutions in anti-money laundering (AML) and terrorist financing detection.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead analytical activities related to AML transaction monitoring systems, including model development and scenario support
  • Maintain and optimize transaction monitoring scenarios and analytical queries to support compliance and risk mitigation strategies
  • Conduct performance tuning of AML/ATF scenarios, including machine learning model execution and monitoring
  • Ensure structured documentation to demonstrate compliance with audit, regulatory, and internal standards
  • Collaborate with global AML teams to resolve transaction monitoring issues and questions
  • Stay abreast of advances in data mining, machine learning, and data science applications relevant to AML
  • Partner with teams to implement changes to existing models or develop new solutions to improve detection accuracy
  • Employ statistical and machine learning techniques to build and maintain effective risk scoring and customer behavior models
  • Lead innovative analytical practices and develop new solutions to support AML efforts
  • Provide insights and support to internal teams to improve processes and identify areas for operational improvement

Desired Skill-Set

  • Extensive experience building predictive models with machine learning techniques
  • Proficiency in Python, Pyspark, Data Bricks, Azure, and SQL
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to explore and interpret data comprehensively
  • Ability to apply statistical techniques and data mining methods to solve complex business problems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in team environments
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities
  • High attention to detail and adaptability to changing project needs

Nice to Have

  • Data Bricks, programming, or statistics certifications
  • Knowledge of Java, Scala, or Tableau
  • AML-specific experience and understanding of AML and data-driven projects in financial services
  • Banking or financial institution experience
  • Experience working on data-centered projects and understanding of industry regulations
